Swimmers with Curls:

Swimming is one of the best parts of summer — but if you have curly hair, you already know pools, lakes, and oceans can leave curls feeling dry, frizzy, or brittle. The good news? With the right routine, you can enjoy the water without sacrificing curl health.

Here’s how to protect and care for your curls before, during, and after swimming:
Chlorine Care
Swim Cap: If you’re swimming more than a couple times a week, invest in a swim cap to reduce chlorine absorption.
Shampoo Smart: Use Malibu C Swimmers Wellness Shampoo to remove chlorine buildup.⚠️ Important: Skip the conditioner that comes with it — it contains silicones that block water from entering the hair shaft.
Lake & Ocean Protection
Before swimming, spray dry curls with Sweet Spirit Leave-In and Hair Love Prep Spray. This prevents your hair from absorbing as much water (and minerals) in the first place.
After swimming, rinse with clean water and refresh with your usual curl products.
Hard Water & Detox
If you live in a hard water area or swim often, minerals can build up on your curls, making them feel dry and look dull. A detox treatment (like Malibu C Hard Water Wellness) can restore softness and shine.
Accessories & Protection
Scarves, hats, and headbands protect curls from UV damage and reduce tangling while swimming.
Bonus: they make the perfect transition accessory if you’re heading straight from the beach or pool to dinner!
