Why Some “After” Photos Look Expanded: and Why That’s a Good Thing

One of the most common goals people bring into my chair is simple: “I just want less frizz.”

And that makes complete sense — frizz has been the thing that we have wished away our whole lives.

But here’s the part most people were never taught: not all frizz is the same.

When curly hair is dehydrated and unable to absorb water, frizz is a distress signa. This type of frizz feels rough, looks chaotic, and makes styling exhausting. Often, we loose curl definition when we get this kind of frizz and the whole thing feels hopeless.

Early on, I often style curls to eliminate frizz entirely so clients can see their definition clearly. Many of my “before” photos reflect that stage with polished, controlled curls with maximum definition.

As the hair becomes clean, detoxed, and regularly hydrated as you implement the Uninhibited Curls method, something changes. The hair becomes soft. Elastic. Responsive. At that point, frizz becomes volume.

Functional frizz gives curls volume. It allows quicker wash days. It creates movement and flexibility without sacrificing definition. It’s the kind of frizz that makes curls feel alive, not fragile.

That’s why many after photos look fuller, freer, or more touchable. They reflect curls that are no longer being controlled, they’re uninhibited.

Healthy curls don’t aim for perfection. They aim for natural, defined, beautiful and hydrated. And some expansion and volume on the side for whoever wants it.
