Summer Survival Guide for Curly Girls

Summer is a season of sunshine, swimming, and fun — but it can also be tough on curly hair. Between the sun, chlorine, and salt water, curls need extra love to stay hydrated, defined, and healthy. Here’s my Summer Survival Guide for Curly Girls:
☀️ Sun Protection
Skin & Face: Protect your face with sunscreen — I love Face Reality’s sunscreen for lightweight, effective coverage. Don’t forget your eyes! Sunglasses are a must (I get my prescription ones from zenni.com).
Hair: Use products that include UV protection to prevent dryness and fading. My go-to is Hair Love Prep Spray from Innersense, available at loripeppinhair.com/success.
🏊 Chlorine Defense
If you’re swimming often, wear a swim cap to limit chlorine exposure.
Use Malibu C Swimmers Wellness Shampoo to remove chlorine buildup.
⚠️ Important: Do not buy or use the conditioner that comes with it — it contains silicones that coat the hair and block water.
🌊 Lakes & Oceans
Before heading out, spray dry hair with Sweet Spirit Leave-In + Hair Love Prep Spray for extra protection.
Accessorize: Scarves and hair bands not only look chic for dinner after the beach but also help protect your curls from sun and heat.
Hats & Caps: Shield curls from harsh midday sun.
Umbrella Ready: A summer must-have to protect you from both UV rays and sudden summer thunderstorms.
Lori’s Tip: Summer hair care is about prevention. If you protect your curls before the damage happens, you’ll spend less time fixing frizz and more time enjoying the season.
