Traveling with Curly Hair: How to Keep Your Curls Happy on the Go

Vacations should feel easy and carefree — and so should your curls. With the right prep and a few essentials, you can enjoy your trip without spending hours styling your hair. Here’s how I recommend traveling with curls so they stay beautiful with minimal effort.

1. Set Yourself Up with the Perfect Wash Day
The best travel curls start before you leave. Plan to do your full wash-and-style routine the day before your trip. When your curls are set well, you’ll have a strong foundation that only needs light refreshing while you’re away. Think of it as “locking in” your style so you don’t have to fuss with it on the road.
2. Refresh in Under 5 Minutes
On vacation, nobody wants to spend time in front of a mirror. That’s why I love a quick morning refresh:
Wet your misbehaving curl clump with water
Add a touch of styling product only where needed- only if you don't feel your previously used products get sticky and slimy
Use your diffuser for a few minutes to reset volume and definition.
That’s it. Less than five minutes, and you’re ready to go explore.
3. Protect Your Curls from the Elements
Extreme heat, sun, or cold? Your curls will thank you for a little extra protection. A wide-brim hat or cap shields your hair (and scalp!) from harsh conditions and helps maintain moisture. Think of it as sunscreen for your hair.
4. Pack Smart with the Right Tools
Don’t leave your favorites at home! Here are my travel must-haves:
Travel-size Innersense products – your curls need the good stuff, even away from home.
A diffuser attachment – it’s essential for quick refreshes and wash days on the go.
A silk scrunchie or satin scarf – to protect your curls overnight and prevent frizz.
5. Have a Few Go-To Styles Ready
Even with the best prep, there might be days when your curls need a little extra love. Keep a few easy half-up styles or messy updos in your back pocket. They’re perfect for windy days, long adventures, or when you just want to change it up.
Travel Tip: The less you touch and fuss with your curls while you’re away, the better they’ll look. Trust your prep, refresh lightly, and enjoy your trip!
With this routine, you’ll spend less time on your hair and more time making memories — with amazing curls in every photo.
