How to care for your color treated curls

Colored curls are beautiful — and they need extra care. Maintaining vibrant, healthy curls after a color service is about more than just using the right shampoo. With intentional care, you can keep your curls strong, shiny, and frizz-free while protecting your color.
1. Wait 48 Hours Before Washing
Right after a color service, your hair’s cuticle is slightly open, which means color molecules haven’t fully settled yet. Avoid washing for 48 hours to give your color time to lock in.
2. Use Cooler Water
When you do wash your hair, stick to cooler water. Hot water opens the cuticle, which can cause color to fade faster. Cooler water keeps the cuticle closed and helps your color last longer.
3. Avoid Clarifying Shampoos
Clarifying shampoos have a high pH and can strip both your natural moisture and your color. Stick to color-protecting shampoos and conditioners that are specifically formulated for colored hair.
4. Invest in In-Salon Treatments
Colored curls can be more prone to dryness or breakage, especially in winter. In-salon conditioning and bond-building treatments 2–3 times a year rebuild the hair’s strength and elasticity, keeping your curls hydrated, shiny, and resilient.
5. Protect and Style with Care
Use leave-ins and styling products that support moisture retention and curl definition. Avoid excessive heat and always diffuse or air-dry gently to prevent breakage.
