How to Boost Curl Volume

Spring is here — and it’s the perfect time to refresh your curls and boost volume.  With the right techniques and products, your curls can be full of life, bounce, and shine — without frizz.

1. Apply Products at the Right Angle

To get maximum lift, apply styling products straight out from your head at a 90-degree angle. This ensures the roots are supported and encourages natural volume from the start.

2. Diffuse While Standing Up

When you start diffusing, stand your hair up at a 90-degree angle. Volume starts when your hair is wet, so how you dry it initially determines how full it will look once dry.

3. Add Lift at the Crown

For extra oomph, use I Create Lift on the crown area while your hair is still wet and your sealer has been applied. This targeted placement creates height where it counts without disrupting curl pattern or causing excess frizz.

4. Find Your Sweet Spot Between Volume and Frizz

Every curly girl has a unique balance of frizz to volume. Some frizz is natural and helps your curls feel soft and lively. The key is learning your hair’s ideal volume/frizz ratio — and that’s something I teach during a Learn Appointment.

Lori’s Tip: Volume begins while your curls are wet. By paying attention to product placement, drying technique, and your crown area, you can achieve long-lasting, frizz-controlled lift every time.
